Grace Alton's Profile Page: Matador Wanted

I was born with coily hair that refused to be tamed. Most days I showed up at school looking more like Medusa instead of the dark-haired, ringlet angel my mother wanted me to be. I was gangly and clumsy.
Dance classes yielded nothing but tears and bruises. I was sharp edges draped in pretty dresses and a name that mocked me.

By high school I ditched the dresses and ballet slippers for dungerees and high tops. I sported a pixie cut and lip balm. I've filled out nicely with lovely curves and a confident gait. Lessons or just attitude? lol These days, it's my tongue that's sharp. I'll cut you deep if piss me off; I'll lick if I like you. I'm fierce and loyal to friends, merciless with assjacks.

Those who know me think I'm beautiful and magnetic. They say I move with a different kind of grace. If you're into bullfighting, step into the arena.

  2. Somebody--Einstein, I think--said that if a fish is judged solely on its ability to climb trees, that fish will always think of itself as a failure. Everybody's got their own way to be, and it sounds like Grace found hers. There's just got to be a matador out there looking for her...

  5. Carving one's own niche rather than toeing the line to fit into a pre-designed mould is remarkably bold & graceful,I feel. This piece is so full of character and strength-loved it:-)

  12. This whole piece is stellar! I can't even pick out a favorite line! As one who has always marched to the beat of a different drummer myself, this could be my anthem! Excellent, Latonya!

  15. I want to go for a drink with this woman. You've captured something in a few words many people in the real world don't even know about themselves. Nice write.

  16. Excellent character sketch. I can relate for sure - the awkward duck to my older sister's swan, trying to be a cheerleader because my mom wanted it, never knowing what to do with my hair, my clothes, my body. I love the fierceness that comes with self-acceptance.

  18. LOVE! This is perfect, it makes me think of a soliloquy to be performed on a darkened stage under a spotlight.
