Open Mic

What Do I Want?

I want to save the planet
so that my babies' babies will have
clean air to breathe and trees to sit under
 and fruit to eat.

I want science not evolution.
I want us to be stewards of
heaven on this Earth. I'm not
ready to be added to the endangered
species list just yet.

I want environmental policies that
promote sustainable urban development;
suits and Birkenstocks, together creating
green spaces where healthy people thrive.

What Do I want?

I want a real orange that tastes like
sunshine and its juices stick to my fingers.
I want to live long enough to giggle with my babies'
babies and inhale long, sweet breaths.

I drafted this piece in response to a prompt at a writing site. The
question is the title. I want a lot of things. My response was inspired
by Majora Carter's impassioned presentation on Ted.com

  1. Oh yes. That is what we all want, I suspect. But will we get it? That is the awkward question.

  4. It should be possible... Birkenstocks instead of SUVs and poetry instead of TV... sounds like utopia to me, but with real oranges ... it would be great.

  5. Sound right, LaTonya ~~ Every being should be able to play and laugh with their grandchildren. Thankfully we have done that, now your generation should.

Also, you made me hungry for an orange. I will go peel it and get the sticky o.j. all over my fingers.

Thank you for peeking in on my silly WATER poem, all was wet including The Little Lady.
