Miminalism: Got Slim?

So this minimalism thing. One of the premises that seduced me was the notion I'd achieve balance. Cool. When does that happen? Currently my book count is diminishing, morning meditation is good and I'm adding planks and push-ups afterwards, and I pick up behind myself. Here's the rub: Unlike other instances where you want to get a handle on things, I'm really not loving the handles currently nestled on each side of my waist.

A woman does what a woman has to do so in keeping it lean (like that pun?), I picked up a few pieces at the thrift store to help me get through my current chunky stage. Yes, I'm still cute and I'm also aging, and that means my metabolism has dropped like a rock. For many of us, this happens after 35 or your last baby. I love exercise. I love the rush and the effect. What I'm not loving is how much more I have to work to get the same results. I'm 5"0' (no wiggle room for extra weight) and staring hard at 50 (I have neither the stamina nor interest in marathon gym sessions), why do I have to work so hard?! Can't I catch a break?

Whining over. Three check marks on my to-do list and it's not even 7:00am. Not bad for an old gal. And yeah, I like saying, being old. I've earned it.

Be well,
L

  1. All I can say to that is...I soo feel you! As one who spent most of her life looking like Twiggy, this abrupt metabolism halt has taken some getting used to. But you know, I am learning to love myself in a totally different way because of it. And as I've earned every tick mark for each of my 49 years, I've realized that I've earned each of my 170 or so pounds. And to help ensure I earn more tick marks, I''ll just have to work harder and become more committed to earning each pound lost.

  3. You were Twiggy and you're still beautiful and wiser. Here's to our good health.

  4. I've found getting older to be incredibly freeing. That being said, I could do with a little less . . . um, gravity.

  5. Mama, don't get me wrong I,too, think there's freedom in aging. I don't lie or regret my age, no desire to dress like my daughters. And I'm far more comfortable in my skin, but..for my health and vanity, I don't need the extra weight. Dressed for the gym. Waiting for my bus. :-)
