Cliffnote Zen aka how I not suckerpunch you

Count to ten-
Breathe, breathe, breathe.
Count to ten so I don't cry-
Breathe, breathe, breathe.

Count to ten so I don't make you cry.
Breathe, breathe, breathe.
Count: ten   nine   eight  seven  six  five
four three two
one.
I can, breathe.

  1. This is a great premise well executed. Rings true and utilizes anaphora to its full efficacy.

  2. First, what a title ~ I like that we are getting creative with our title posts, ha ~

Like the refrain and the subtle twist, breathe, breathe ~

    Have a good day ~

  4. ha. love the title...and how it even rhymes into the poem a bit...i have to count to like 37...which would make for a very boring poem, me counting that far...ha. tight little piece...and lets face it...they probably deserved it...but good job on the restraint...smiles.

  5. This is so good I think I need to memorize it. Very clever use of the prompt and great photo, too.

    Thanks all.

Victoria, I'll be revisiting this device. Impromptu is a real challenge.

  10. Fantastic poem. I can't count how many times I've done that counting thing, and sure enough it really works. :)

  11. The repetitive 'breathe' line really makes this come alive.

  12. Wanting to psyche oneself is not that easy. Time and concentration are the essence. You showed it here brilliantly, La Tonya, in just so many words.

  13. Glad to see your blog again. Interestingly enough I was just in the process of commenting on this one on Thursday when it went down.

I do think remembering to breathe is very important. I've used it myself when I was in some kind of difficult situation! Enjoyed your anaphora!
