harlequin romance
babe nothing quite as satisfying
as my head buried in your armpit
my shoulder falling asleep
inhaling our funk
stepping over
strewn jeans
and empty video cases
eating cookies
made
just because
swishing dish water
captured on film
so later you can watch
your honey doing
household chores
in your denim shirt
serving lunch by candlelight
toasted baguettes with
hummus and cherry tomatoes
nothing quite like
love

ReplyDeleteHi Barbara, in our early days, DH was my muse. I was quite prolific in those days. I love him as much, no, more today. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThis is great. I especially like "inhaling our funk." :)
ReplyDeletenah there is nothing quite like love...ha...i like that you dont go with the usual...the smell of the pits...though i do like the thought of seeing my wife wash the dishes in one of my shirts...ha....cool piece...
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I especially like how this sounds: swishing dish water.
ReplyDeleteOh this so satisfies! Love it.
ReplyDeleteLa Tonya, yes, I love the messy scene of love and good eating. Nice poem.

ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit and comment--especially because it prompted me to see what you brought to the bar this week! It's a fabulous piece--simplistic yet with a depth it's sometimes hard to find in love poems--at least for me. I think the dishwashing episode did it for me--it doesn't get more real than that!
ReplyDeleteDelicious poetry. The conversational tone flows smoothly and hints at a level of comfort and contentment that most people search all their lives to find.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for the comments. I'm not sure why, but these were waiting moderation which I don't have set.
